Jane Smith is a California paramedic and currently serves as a California EMS Authority Commissioner. She has a MA in Adult Education and a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She is an EMS expert with over 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, including Public Health, education, the fire service, and nonprofit business. She has worked in many positions up to and including EMS department head where her responsibilities included QI/QA, education and training, strategic planning and budget management. She taught for 10 years as tenured faculty at San Francisco City College. As an entrepreneur, she has worked with a number of other health care professionals to lead a nonprofit community-based paramedic organization as a premier educational institution, providing a voice for EMS throughout the California. Jane has been a student advisor for the Center for Health Professions at the University of California San Francisco, faculty member for American Heart Association and guest speaker for local and national conferences.
Art Hsieh is a licensed California paramedic and full time paramedic educator at Santa Rosa Junior College, Department of Public Safety. During the past four decades, Art has provided field care in a variety of environments, including the fire service, third service, private and hospital based. He has been a section chief in a major metropolitan fire department, a director of a nonprofit EMS education institution, and wrote a biweekly column for EMS1.com for several years. Art currently teaches at a Northern California community college paramedic program, preparing the next generation of patient care providers for the challenges of the field environment.
